There are many urban legends that we hear. In the Philippines, where the country is prone to many stories of mysteries and supernatural beliefs, tales like this seem to be predominantly interesting as well as entertaining.
One of the famous stories of all time is that of the Gokongwei clan. This high profile family of businessmen, being known for their several properties and estates, didn’t escape the media for their allegedly “snake man” son.
It was rumored that Robina Gokonwei, one of the children of John Gokongwei, and who is one the family members who led the retail business, was said to have a twin. This twin is reportedly that who is a “snake man”, meaning, he is half-snake and half-man.
It circulated before that this “snake man” was kept in Robinsons Galleria, one of the malls of the Gokongwei clan. It was said that it was hidden in one of the dressing rooms, where it had an access to the mall’s CCTV, and that everytime a woman seemed appealing, the woman of preference would fall into one of the floors and drop into where he is.
Robino Gokonwei joked in her speech at UP School of Economics last 2008, “I have no idea who started this incredible story, but I have to tell you that some people believed it and even started staring at my legs to see if there were signs of snakeskin” She added, “Thank goodness there was no internet yet at that time, or you would start receiving, photos of me with a snake’s body and my “kakambal” (twin) snake with a woman’s legs”
Actress Alice Dixon was rumored to be one of the almost-victims and was allegedly paid a huge amount of money to keep her silence. However, she along with the rest of the Gokonwei family members denied the rumor.
